Match
Report (Courtesy of Nick Inwood)
After
two tough fixtures against UCL opposition Heyford made the trip
to Division 2 side Ristee Towers for their latest friendly fixture
with a strong looking squad and as it turned out it proved to
be far too strong for the opposition we found ourselves up against.
With
no less than five strikers in the 14 man squad Heyford lined
up in a 4-3-3 formation with Waldock and Currier being joined
in the side for the first time this season by Dave Drinkwater.
There
was also a debut in midfield for Adam Lett - a player picked
up from Sunday side AFC Trinity.
On
a tight pitch with little room it took the visitors less than
10 minutes to move into a two goal lead, courtesy of two strikes
from the lively Waldock, his first goals for the club, the first
of which a fine individual effort, the second a clam finish
following a good through ball from veteran skipper Steve Hair.
Following
this Ristee briefly threatened with Mike Scott in the Heyford
goal making a good save from a free kick which was followed
soon after by a fluffed one on one opportunity after Ryan Grant
had lost possession in the right back position.
20
minutes in, just what Heyford didn't want happened, Stuart Clarke
pulled up with a recurrence of his hamstring injury - he was
replaced immediately by Lee Wilkinson and the management team
are hoping that this latest injury isn't as serious as the previous
one.
Before
the half hour mark Heyfords lead was 5-0, as a diving header
from Drinkwater, a close range finish from Wilkinson and a debut
goal for Lett were added to the earlier strikes from Waldock.
10
minutes before the interval Waldock completed his hat-trick
with an excellent strike from the edge of the area to send the
visitors into the interval six goals to the good.

Time: Ristee Towers 0 Heyford Athletic 6
Heyford
replaced Waldock and Hair at the interval with Curley and Currey,
a change which also saw Paul 'Blob' Currier moved back up front.
With
the game already in the bag Heyford started the second half
poorly and within 10 minutes of the restart Ristee were handed
the perfect opportunity to pull back a consolation goal when
James Hemphill was correctly penalized for handball and a penalty
was awarded.
Fortunately
for Hemphill, Mike Scott in the Heyford goal guessed right and
the spot kick was saved.
Within
10 minutes of this miss Heyford added a seventh as Currier fired
home from just inside the 18 yard box.
With
20 minutes remaining Ristee got what they were dreading, the
reintroduction of Waldock and it wasn't long before he collected
his fourth and Heyfords eighth of the afternoon.
This
turned out to be the last Heyford score, although Currey went
close to adding a ninth and opening his Heyford account.
With
5 minutes remaining Ristee were bizarrely awarded another penalty,
this time Pete Kamara penalized for climbing, the decision harsh
to say the least.
This
time there was no mistake as the spot kick was fired home and
the referee got what he wanted a Ristee consolation!

Summary:
In
hindsight this match was probably too easy, although that said
after two tough fixtures it was good to score some goals and
gain some confidence in front of goal.
In
a way I am pleased we played away as no disrespect to the opposition
it could and probably would have been twenty had we been playing
at home - the pitch was very tight and it didn't help that both
teams were playing in the same colour shirts!
Again
today we were missing a number of players who you would expect
to come into the first team reckoning when the season starts,
to name a few, Lacey, Harris, Cox, Barron, Whittaker, Byrne
and Brown - this just shows the strength we currently have throughout
the squad making selecting the team on 5th September extremely
difficult. That said we want all players to remember that you
are signed for Heyford Athletic Football Club, not just the
1st team or the Reserves.
Man of the Match: James Hemphill
It's
not often that a player scores four goals (particularly in a
Heyford shirt over the past few years) and doesn't get the MOM
award, however I have decided to give today's MOM to James Hemphill
who turned in arguably his best performance in a Heyford shirt.
Non stop running, good skill and created some good openings
with his attacking forays and went close to scoring himself
in the first half.
All
that said Tommy was excellent today and if he plays like that
when the real stuff starts, the Combination better watch out
we have a real player on our hands!
