Match
Report (Courtesy of Nick Inwood)
It's
late and I am tired so I will keep tonights report short and
sweet.............
Heyford
traveled to face a new look Blisworth side with only 5 of the
side that started Saturdays friendly available for selection,
this resulted in late 1st team call ups for both Rob Addison
and Paul Farmer whilst there was also the return on the bench
of Pete 'the horse' Foley.
With
four top quality centre halves in Lacey, Harris, Kamara and
Clarke unavailable due to work commitments, injury and holiday
an unfamilar Heyford back four of Richards, Currier, Drinkwater
and Whittaker had their work cut out against a quick Blisworth
front line which caused the visiting defence problems all night
long.
Against
the run of play Heyford had an early chance to take the lead
although Lett's scuffed shot following a fine run was easily
saved by the home keeper.
This
was to be the closest Heyford came in the opening exchanges
as by the 30 minute mark the home side were 3 goals to the good,
the first a lobbed finish, the second a penalty and the third
a well taken one on one opportunity.
Heyford
now at sixes and sevens were handed a life line as first Steve
Hair headed home at the far post before right on the stroke
of half time an excellent Matt Barron strike from 25 yards,
his first for the club, reduced the deficit to one and to be
honest during the final 15 minutes of the half there was only
one team in it with Lee Wilkinson going close to a third Heyford
goal just before the break.
Half
Time: Blisworth 3 Heyford Athletic 2
Unfortunately
that was the best it got for the visitors as apart from one
or two goal mouth scrambles following set plays it was pretty
much one way traffic with Blisworth scoring 3 unanswered goals
as well as hitting the woodwork on at least one occasion.

Match
Summary:
Credit
to Blisworth, they were by far the better side on the night
and ran out worthy winners, although that said I don't know
of many teams at our level that could cope with the loss/unavailability
of players like Lacey, Clarke, Harris, Kamara, Maund, Grant,
Moore, Cox and Curley - that said the players on display are
capable of much better than was on display tonight, especially
the second half when some were content to watch their man pass
them at will.
Night
games are always awkward especially when people work away although
none of this should be used as an excuse, we simply weren't
good enough on the night although on the positive side lets
not forget it was only a friendly, what would be more worrying
is if the performance level and the result is the same on September
5th when we face Moulton.
Worryingly
striker Matt Currey was withdrawn after 20 minutes tonight struggling
with a groin injury, fingers crossed the news isn't too bad.
Man of the Match: No Award
Although
there was no award tonight (and rightly so) I wanted to single
out both Paul Currier and Dave Drinkwater, who both gave 110%
all night, which was even more remarkable given that they are
both strikers and were asked to line up at centre half 10 minutes
before kick off.
