Match
Report (Courtesy of reporter Bob Hancox)
The
game against Medbourne was an opportunity for the team to bounce
back after the last disappointing defeat against Ringstead.
The opposition are bottom with 3 points but Heyford only have
six points but from 2 fewer games so a win would help move us
up to mid table.
With
ideal playing conditions Medbourne created the first few attacks
but these were dealt with by the Heyford defence. After 12 minutes
however Heyford found themselves 2 up. The first coming when
the Medbourne keeper played a goal kick short to his full back
wide of the penalty box and he only succeeded playing it back
in to the box towards Bruno who had a simple task of side footing
it in to the goal via the post. The second goal arrived after
a swift break up field from a Medbourne corner. The ball was
crossed wide from the left in to the box and only half cleared
to Whitty on the edge of the box who hit it on the run in to
the roof of the net which was followed by one of his famous
celebratory runs.
Medbourne
continued to attack looking to go wide and cross in to the Heyford
box hoping to use their aerial threat which did create a few
half chances but these were dealt with by the defence. Heyford
looked dangerous when they broke from midfield with Nik Maund
in particular spraying some delightful passes to either flank
with the other midfielders providing good support to the attack.
It
was looking difficult for Medbourne to find a way back in to
the game when a long clearance from their box landed at the
feet of a Medbourne forward well in the Heyford half without
much support. He moved forward marked by Ryan Ansell who allowed
him to turn on the edge of the box and hook a shot goalwards
which just dropped in side Henry Spears far post. This
put Medbourne on the front foot forcing Heyford to defend for
the next few minutes but the defence lead by Noel Wright and
Jim Wayman held firm.
Heyford
then increased their lead when from a quick break the ball was
played out to Ryan Ansell on the left who attacked the 2 defenders
then nearing the box cut in side and clipped a tempting cross
across the box which was met by a Medbourne defender and head
into his net. Then just before half time it looked like we had
a penalty when Bruno was clearly pushed in the box but had already
been flagged off side.

Medbourne
started the second half strongly and dominated position in Heyford
half although they failed to create any real clear cut chances
They attacked out wide but found both full backs difficult to
get past and when they did any crosses were dealt with by the
defenders supported by Henry Spears in goal. Medbourne finally
did get the ball in the net but the attacker was flagged off
side. The midfield continued to work hard and slowly started
to turn things around and take the game more in to the Medbourne
half and created a couple of half chances.
Whitty
who was replaced by Paulo de Macedo with 20 minutes to go immediately
kept the continuity going in midfield. Henry Spears was forced
to make an excellent close range tip over to deny Medbourne
a second goal. Nathan Lacey came on with 13 minutes to go to
replace Nik Maund in midfield. With 10 minutes left Medbourne
went to 3 at the back and shortly afterwards Heyford made the
game safe when a break down their left resulted in the low cross
causing confusion in the Medbourne penalty area and after a
shot was saved the rebound fell to Bruno who tucked away his
second goal. Medbourne continued to press for a consolation
goal but the defence held firm and Heyford also created chances
to score a couple more goals.

Match Summary:
The
whole squad worked hard to produce a great result to banish
memories of the previous game. From what I have seen today and
some previous games the youth and the more experienced in the
side are now starting to blend together as a team (average age
24 yrs) giving the management team plenty to work with and aim
for at least a mid table finish. The team spirit and work ethics
today were excellent.
