Match Report (Courtesy of Nick Inwood)

With key players Paul Curley and Tom Whittaker unavailable, there was a return to the Heyford squad for Nik Maund, Ryan Waldock and Ben Hyams, whilst Adam Jones also came into the mix for the first time this season.

After last Saturday's cup semi final victory we knew our opponents were coming into the game full of confidence and with a second place finish in the league an achievable target we knew we would be in for a difficult afternoon.

Up against a quick, skillful, slick passing team, we matched our opponents for all of 4 minutes as a communication break down in the middle of the pitch saw the ball fed wide where it was crossed into the box and bundled into the roof of the net from close range.

3 minutes later, the lead was doubled and the game effectively over. This time the goal came from a mistake on the right where a throw-in was needlessly conceded and the quick thinking Brixworth full back launched the ball all of 25 yards where the unmarked striker scored inside the near post from close range.

On 10 minutes things got worse as the influential Stuart Clarke was forced to retire with a hamstring injury to be replaced by Ben Hyams. This change lead to a reshuffle with Nik Maund moving to the back to partner Nathan Lacey.

With a strong wind making it difficult for both sides the rest of the half was a non event really, with both teams playing some good football at times, although goal mouth incident was scarce.

Half Time: Brixworth 2 Heyford Athletic 0

Heyford started the second half as we did the first, conceding inside the first 5 minutes. This time it was a header from 6 yards out from a free kick conceded just outside the penalty box.

This brought about another Heyford change as Adam Jones replaced the injured James Hemphill on the left before 5 minutes later Lee Wilkinson gave way to Ben Richards.

Despite kicking against the wind it was still the home side that had the greater threat as an attacking force and with 5 minutes to go it was 4 nil as the ball was hooked into the far corner of the net following a poor Heyford clearance.

Full Time: Brixworth 4 Heyford Athletic 0

Match Summary:

The conditions weren't ideal again this week, although in all fairness we got what we deserved from the game - nothing! Despite playing some attractive football at times, our failure to create any meaningful chances was disappointing, in fact I don't think the Brixworth keeper had a single shot to save.

We have had some decent results lately although on Saturday it confirmed we've still got a long way to go to get to where we want to be and achieve what we want to achieve which is success at Heyford Football Club.

6 games to go, lets make sure we finish the season on a high - it would be nice to break the 30 points barrier, so at least 10 more required!

Man of the Match: No Award
