Match
Report (Courtesy of reporter Bob Hancox)
Heyford
went in to the derby game against in form Harpole on the back
of a 4 game losing run with no goals scored. The Harpole pitch
looked good despite the previous days rain. It was disappointing
that despite no Reserve game and with over 50 players signed
on there were only 12 players at kick off including new signing
Ololade Esuruoso, and Res captain Paul Farmer. Adam Deakin despite
nursing a sore foot made the bench by the middle of the 1st
half after Chris Peck drove him home to get his kit.
Harpole
kicked off down the slope and immediately went on the attack
scoring after 3 minutes when from a cross the ball was side
footed in to the net. Heyford looked all at sea defensively
and Harpole thought they had increased their lead from another
cross but the forward was given off side. Heyford started to
find their feet and put together some passes which pressurized
the Harpole defence but lacked that final killer ball. Harpole
continued to press for a second goal but were denied by 3 excellent
stops from Jack Messinger and lots of resolute defending. Heyford
had to re shuffle when Matt Barron tweaked his hamstring again
and was replaced by Ololade Esuruoso.
The
longer the half went Heyford looked more confident in their
play with Marc Ansell reeling back the years in the centre of
the park they forced the Harpole keeper in to action. Their
opponents on the other hand despite having a lot of play still
couldnt score again resulting in them miss hitting some
passes and crosses. Just when it looked like Heyford would finish
the half only 1-0 down Harpole attacked down the middle of the
pitch resulting in ex Heyford player Luke Abrahart scoring a
well taken goal with only a couple of minutes to go.

With
Heyford kicking down the slope if they could get an early goal
it would bring them back in to contention. They started off
well and created some half chances but mainly around the edge
of the box, lacking that cutting edge getting in to the box.
However Harpole struggled to get going and didnt cause
Heyford too many problems early on. As the game moved in to
the final quarter Heyford players as a result of their sterling
efforts started to look tired. Harpole now had the ascendancy
and looked for the third goal but failed to find the net due
to some dogged defending and goal keeping.
Paul
Farmer who had given his all was replaced by Adam Deakin with
Paul Currier dropping in to defence. It looked like the second
half was going to remain score less but then with 2 minutes
left Harpole scored. At the start of the move it looked like
a Heyford player was fouled but the ref waved play on and with
Harpole attackers out numbering Heyford defenders despite the
first effort being saved the rebound was slotted home.

Match Summary:
When
I saw the side at kick off I did fear the worse but how wrong
could I have been. The 13 players gave everything during the
whole 90 minutes and were a credit to the club. Nik Maund together
with Paul Farmers marshaled the defence, Marc Ansell despite
being older enough to qualify for Vets football used his many
years of experience in the middle of the park to link play up
especially in the first half. The rest of the players worked
tirelessly running them selves in to the ground. Although this
was they 5th straight defeat they had all been against the top
sides and 4 away from home. As I said at the beginning of this
report why did we struggle to get out a side, I know some players
are injured but the commitment to the club of others must be
questioned. Next week is a home game against Corby Pegasus and
a chance to get some points and goals.
