Match
Report (Courtesy of Paul Hesketh)
Heyford made the short journey over to neighbours Bugbrooke
for a mini derby as the first game of the season.
The
new look squad included three of last years under 17s
plus Colin Johnstone and Matt Currey who had both featured regularly
in the first team last term.
The
game started at a frantic pace with both teams struggling to
settle. Heyford created the first scoring opportunity with a
Matt Hogg snap shot that went over the bar.
As
the half wore on it became clear that the Bugbrooke defence
were in for a tough afternoon against the strong Currey and
Hogg combination.
Heyfords
defence were also kept on their toes as Bugbrooke were looking
to threaten on the break.
The
next real chance fell to Ian Grant when the home keeper made
a hash of a clearance, the ball fell to Granty but from 30 yards
out his attempted chip was stopped by the keeper who had recovered
his position.
With
30 minutes gone Connor Murphy and Ian Grant linked well to carve
out the first chance for Matt Currey who turned the defender
to make half a yard and beat the keeper inside the box.
This
gave Heyford the confidence to play and they began to look much
more confident in possession, Hemphill and Clarke were combining
well and the engine room of Martin and East began to dominate
in central midfield
The
second goal followed five minutes before half time when Nick
Martins determination forced Bugbrooke to give the ball
away and when the chance fell to Currey he scored inside the
box with a thundering drive.

Bugbrooke
started the second half the livelier of the 2 teams, and for
the first 5 minutes Heyfords defence was under pressure. Captain
Farmer and his partner Noel Wright were both called upon to
make timely interventions to protect Colin Johnstones
goal.
However
Heyford scored the all important third goal, and who else but
Matt Currey who completed his first hat-trick for the club.
With
Heyford now in total control and playing some neat football
Esky began to make some changes and the first addition was young
George Dale, another product of the clubs youth
team. He replaced Ian Grant on the right while Tom Noodle
Addison replaced the other ex-youth team player Harleigh East
in midfield.
It
was these two players who combined to give Heyford their fourth
when Addison slipped in a neat pass to leave Dale one on one
with the keeper and his cool finish showing maturity for his
age.
Heyford
were now enjoying them selves and creating chances, Dan Hawkins
replaced Hoggy for the last 15 minutes and he also showed some
neat touches. However they failed to add to the tally with the
score remaining at 4-0.

Match Summary:
Got
to be pleased with a 4-0 win, we looked strong and powerful
with some neat interplay when we had relaxed into the game.
The work rate was good, but we can still improve. It was pleasing
to see the young lads coming through and they all gave a good
account of themselves. With some players suspended or unavailable
this week the squad is very competitive, so future looks good.
